Problem Solving Ability Assessment (PSAA)

This project aims to assess student problem solving ability via a set of games. The results of PISA 2012 have shown that this kind of ability is relatively independent from student’s science and mathematical ability. And the independence appears to be much stronger for Chinese students than those in other countries. So we need to design and implement a tool that is able to assess this special ability and even help students improve it in the future.

In the assessment system, all the student-game interactions will be recorded. So students' problem solving strategies can be inferred from the log files. A four-dimension measurement has been designed to describe each individual's problem solving ability.  Now, we have finished in implementing the platform and two assessment games have been integrated. The next step is to conduct pilot studies with students in elementary schools and to build the analysis module.
