Delegation from Finnish Government, Organization and University Visited the AICFE


On the morning of February 20, 2017, Dr. Mika Tirronen, Counsellor of Education and Science, Embassy of Finland, Beijing; Dr. Matti Hämäläinen, DIMECC International Cooperation and China-Finland Strategic ICT Alliance Coordinator; Dr. Jiehan, Zhou, Senior Researcher at University of Oulu, Smart IoT Finland-China Consortium Coordinator and Hilla Finland-China Project Manager, visited Advanced Innovation Center for Future Education (AICFE), they shared vision and practice of Sino-Finnish EduCloud Initiative, and discussed the prospects for cooperation with AICFE to plan joint strategic initiative on digital solutions for learning.

The meeting was presided over by Professor Shengquan Yu, Executive Director of AICFE. Director Wei Tang and Ms. Jiachen Song from International Cooperation Office; Deputy Baoping Li and Dr. Lishan Zhang from Learning Science Laboratory; Deputy Director Mengnan Gao from Smart Platform Laboratory; and Ms. Fangzhu Chen from Sino-Finnish Joint Learning Innovation Institute (JoLII) participated in the meeting. Dr. Tirronen, Counsellor of Education and Science at Embassy of Finland introduced delegates, background, and purpose of the visit. Dr. Hämäläinen introduced the background, theory, and practice of Sino-Finnish EduCloud Initiative comprehensively. Sino-Finnish EduCloud Initiative was initiated by the Ministry of Education and Culture, Finland, aimed at seeking for an extensible digital solution for education and learning to make the future learning community possible and standardize the digital learning resources in the market.

Professor Shengquan Yu briefly introduced AICFE, including the background, organization, research projects, and learning platform. Director Wei Tang of International Cooperation Office introduced international cooperation at AICFE. In order to deepen the understanding of each party, Ms. Jiachen Song demonstrated Smart Learning Partner (SLP) Platform and focus on data collection, learning analytics, and individualized learning functions of. SLP is an education public service platform developed by the AICFE for Secondary school students in Beijing. Dr. Lishan Zhang showed Problem Solving Ability Assessment (PSAA) System, including operation and function PSAA system models primary and secondary students' problem solving ability utilizing big data, machine learning and other computing technologies to realize the assessment on students' problem solving ability and provide suggestions to improve it. Both sides had more in-depth understanding for each other and were keenly interested in cooperation on research and practice. Both Sides also explored the possibility and value of future integration based on strengths and advantages.

K-12 education in Finland has high reputation worldwide. This visit brought a new opportunity for AICFE, and AICFE hope to establish long-term and stable cooperation with government, organizations and universities in Finland. The visiting of Finnish delegation marked that through JoLII AICFE has attracted attention from Finnish government, organizations, and universities in areas such as the development of data-informed smart education public service platform, the innovation of education public service model in the Mobile Internet era, and artificial intelligent tutor research project. We believe that the cooperation will go further based on closer and more frequent communication, and this cooperation will help AICFE build a high-level international and innovative platform as one of Sino-Finnish research bases centralizes education public service and relevant technologies.
