Prof. Sorel Reisman Delivered a Lecture on OER
Professor Sorel Reisman from California State University Fullerton delivered a lecture on Open Education Resources(OER): New Opportunities for Teaching and Research at 9.30 July 16,2016 in the Room 208, Yanbo Building, Beijing Normal University.
Sorel Reisman is a tenured full professor of Information Systems at California State University Fullerton. He has been on leave for a number of years serving as Managing Director of the international consortium, MERLOT. Prior to his academic career, he held senior management positions at IBM, Toshiba, and EMI in both the US and Canada. He served as 2011 President of the IEEE Computer Society and currently am a member of the IEEE Publications Services and Products Board and the IEEE Education Activities Board where he is the editor-in-chief of the IEEE eLearning Library. In December, 2014, he was selected as a Fulbright Specialist in Open Education Resources.
During lecture, Prof. Sorel first introduced Open Education Resources and differentiated it from Open Access and Open Source. Then he talked about the function of Merlot and the background. Prof. Shengquan Yu discussed the research progress about OER with Prof. Sorel. At last, Prof. Sorel answered the questions attendees asked and interacted with them.
