AICFE Fully Supports the New Trial of Beijing Open Online Teaching Project Launched by Beijing Municipal Education Commission


In order to strengthen the comprehensive education reform in Beijing, "Internet +" and Big Data have been used to deepen the approach of innovation of the basic public education service. The expected result is to realize the refinement and circulation of online teaching service. The Municipal Education Commission and the Municipal Bureau of Finance jointly formulated the “Beijing Middle School Teachers Open Online Teaching Project (2018-2020) (Trial)” (Jing Jiao Ren [2018] No. 1) and held startup meeting of 2018 at the Municipal Education Commission on March 30th. More than 200 stakeholders of education attended the startup meeting, including leaders responsible for personnel work and teacher education and headmasters of 135 schools from six districts.

Li Yi, member of the Municipal Committee of Education and the deputy director of the Municipal Education Commission, stated that the launch of Beijing Middle School Teachers Open Online Teaching Project is an important exploration to implement “Internet + education” and to run education that meets people’s satisfaction in the new era. First of all, the Internet, information-based society, artificial intelligence and other technologies are surging and have a far-reaching impact on education, which requires us to actively adapt to this trend. Meanwhile, we must adhere to a problem-oriented and goal-oriented approach to implement this project. Second, this practice is the extension and transformation of the basic public education service. Efforts should be taken to actively integrate diverse resources, and to make the structure of supply-side more diversified and the supply more abundant. All these require schools to identify the problems and demands of themselves, and to encourage outstanding teachers to participate in Open Online Teaching Project with an open mind.

Yang Jianglin, Director of the Personnel Division of the Beijing Municipal Education Commission claimed that by building up an open online teaching and education management platform, middle school teachers will be encouraged to utilize their education expertise and strengths, to share teaching materials, and to provide various forms of online tutoring for students. Students can make appointment with personalized online teachers or use online resources based on their own needs, so as to solve the learning difficulties and problems on time. The platform aims to help students overcome weak points, develop interests and expertise.

Professor Yu Shengquan, Executive Director of the Advanced Innovation Center for Future Education (AICFE) at Beijing Normal University, summed up two rounds of trials last year in Tongzhou District and introduced the arrangements for the promotion of Beijing Middle School Teachers Open Online Teaching Project, 2018. Director Li Yi and Yang Jianglin spoke highly of the work conducted by AICFE. Professor Yu Shengquan stated that AICFE will make every effort to promote the open online teaching project and strive to support in all phases.

Li Shuyu and Song Aixia delivered speeches as teacher representatives in open online teaching project. Li Shuyu, a teacher of Chaoyang School Affiliated to Renmin University of China, believed that the online and offline teaching service is a good news and timely rain for the children. Students will benefit a lot from participation. Fundamentally, the project can help to achieve equal, high quality and balanced development of education. Song Aixia, a teacher from Songzhuang Middle School in Tongzhou District, expressed the hope that the online and offline teaching service model can develop sustainably. This beneficial project will address urgent needs of teachers and students, and meet their requirements. Let us look forward to the future!
 
 
Background Introduction:
The "Advanced Innovation Center for Future Education (AICFE) at Beijing Normal University" is a high-level international innovation platform supported by the Beijing Municipal Government. It is one of the first advanced innovation centers set up in Beijing. The core mission of the center is to promote the transformation of public education services in Beijing from digital to intelligent based on big data, and use the “Internet+” approach to deepen comprehensive reform of education in Beijing. In December 2016 and June 2017, organized by the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, AICFE conducted two rounds of trials of “Beijing Middle School Teachers Open Online Teaching Project ” in Tongzhou District. In the two rounds of trials, a total of 7,308 online teachers participated, covering 17 districts of Beijing, and a total of 10,002 students of 7th and 8th grade in Tongzhou were tutored. Effect of the two rounds of trials was significant, it effectively realized the online circulation of teachers’ intellectual resources, provided opportunities for students in 31 schools in Tongzhou District to access to excellent teachers from various districts in Beijing, and expanded the scope of influence of high-quality teachers. To some extent, this project balanced personnel resources of teachers all across Beijing. In the next round of trial, AICFE will continue to support students activities, data mining and analysis, platform and App upgrades, data tracking, and online inquiry.
