From 10th to 16th August, 2019, the 28th International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI) was held in Macau, China. As the oldest international academic conference in the field of artificial intelligence, the IJCAI received more than 3,000 researchers from all over the world who gathered there to discuss the present and future of artificial intelligence. Associate Professor Yu Lu, Director of the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory of the Advanced Innovation Center for Future Education (AICFE) of Beijing Normal University, attended the meeting on behalf of the Center. After several rounds of appraisal and demonstration, the Smart Learning Partner Robot: An Intelligent Robot for Education submitted by the team won the Best Robotic Video Award at the conference.

The Robot was studied and developed by AICFE. It uses artificial intelligence technology such as natural language processing, emotion recognition, knowledge graph and knowledge tracking to collect the data in students’ whole learning process, to analyze and visualize students’ learning status. Through the personalized recommendation and incentive mechanism, the system can provide students with high-quality learning resources to stimulate students’ intrinsic motivation to learn and ultimately improve their learning performance. The Robot can be directly applied to a variety of learning environments, including the family, and it has been verified its simulative effect by a large number of empirical studies on the student’s learning interest and learning effects.
This time, we are very honored to be given this meaningful award, which marks the recognition from the international AI academia towards our works on the AI+ Education. We are expecting to making greater and more influential contributions in the field of AI on behalf of BNU.
