Lu Yu, an associate professor at Beijing Normal University, was awarded the "China New Development Award" by Springer · Nature


On June 19, Springer Nature (Springer Nature) announced 10 academic books awarded the China New Development Award (China New Development Awards) in English, in recognition of Chinese scholars' important contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

Lu Yu, associate professor of Beijing Normal University and director of the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory of the Center for Future Education, and Hannele Niemi, professor Hannele Niemi of the University of Helsinki, won the "China New Development Award", which is the only academic book in education to win this award this year. The book systematically discusses the typical application of AI technology in all aspects of teaching, and elaborates and prospects the important opportunities and practical challenges facing the field of artificial intelligence in education. Since its launch on Springer Nature in 2023, the book has been downloaded more than 216,000 times worldwide, generating a wide academic impact.

Springer Nature Dr. Tang Enping (Niels Peter), President of Global Books, said at the award ceremony that he is pleased to see that Chinese scholars continue to make important research contributions to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in various disciplines, especially AI. The 10 winning books this year were selected from nearly 1,000 latest English academic books published by Chinese authors.

Springer Nature In 2019, the "China New Development Award" was established, with the main selection criteria of scientific value and social influence of research. The winning academic books cover education, agriculture, computer, medicine, public health, semiconductor, international relations and other fields. It is also the sixth consecutive year that Springer Nature has awarded the China New Development Award to Chinese book authors.
