Knowledge is a public good, the coin of a knowledge society, and a free, plentiful, potentially equalizing resource in society. Yet capacity to work with ideas remains underdeveloped, with gaps between knowledge rich and knowledge poor. Much of education continues to work outside cultural norms prevalent in innovative, knowledge-creating organizations of all sorts. Those norms include collective responsibility for community, not simply personal knowledge; sustained idea improvement; a “surpassing ourselves” mindset; and students taking charge at high levels–levels customarily reserved for teachers and curriculum and technology designers. KBSI2019 functioned as a workshop in three continents, with teachers, students, administrators, researchers, policy makers, and computer scientists worldwide working together to explore and design ways to use digital media and innovative knowledge practices in global, connected hubs of innovation attuned to a vision of engagement with knowledge as a public good.
We took advantage of the geographical spread of the 2019 Knowledge Building Summer Institute, with the programs featuring initiatives and innovations arising in the regions of the meetings:
Asia (Beijing, China; Hiroshima, Japan; Singapore)
North America (Toronto, Canada)
Europe (Wageningen, The Netherlands; Lyon, France)
Members from other regions were encouraged to submit presentations in keeping with the “Knowledge Building Practices and Technology for Global Hubs of Innovation” theme, and were included in the programs. At these meetings we planned joint projects and co-designed next-generation Knowledge Building technology.

知识是公共产品,是知识社会流通的货币,它是自由、丰富、甚至有可能人人均享的社会资源。然而,在人与人知识丰富程度存在巨大差异的情况下,我们阐述自己的想法,提出合适的问题,建构相应的假设和完善已有想法的能力尚有欠缺。到目前为止,各种创新性的知识创造组织普遍存在且已发展成为文化的各种规范和原则,这些规范和原则并没有在各种情景和各种级别的教育中得到很好的应用。这些原则包括对整个共同体而非个人的认知责任感、持续完善想法和观点、不断“超越自我”的心态和学生发挥自己的主观能动性去承担以往教师、课程和技术设计者肩负的认知责任。2019年知识建构暑期论坛将在亚洲、北美和欧洲共同举办工作坊,旨在联合全球的教师、学生、管理人员、研究人员、政策制定者和计算机科学家共同探索和设计在全球范围使用数字媒体和创新知识的实践方法,形成知识作为公共资源的联合创新中心。
今年的知识建构暑期论坛充分利用了的地理优势,将在四个地区召开—— 亚洲(中国北京;日本广岛;新加坡),北美(加拿大多伦多)和欧洲(法国里昂)。我们同样鼓励其他地区的成员提交与“面向全球创新中心的知识建构实践与技术”这一主题关联的演讲,我们会将其纳入其中一个或多个会议中。在这些会议上,我们将一起努力来探讨和下一代的知识建构技术。
